Review:
This 10 CD box set from Brilliant Classics is a real must for anyone
with even a slight taste for symphonic classical music from the period
of the late 1800's. The Austrian composer Anton Bruckner tends to be
slightly overlooked as one of the great composers from this period. His
influences extend to Gustav Mahler and Franz Schmidt, both of whom
enjoy current popularity.
The set contains all Bruckner's 10
symphonies in their entirety, recorded during the late 1970's,
performed by the Staatskapelle Dresden under the direction of the late
Eugen Jochum. Both orchestra and conductor are respected for their
performances of Bruckner symphonies - listen to these CDs and you will
hear why. The recordings are well balanced, the orchestration and
direction give a lively, fresh and crisp feel to these works.
Currently priced at around Ј25 this set represents a great chance to discover the music of Anton Bruckner at a bargain price.
Buy it, put your feet up and enjoy it.
